Although the female nurse and the woman of the patient’s family are also kept during the investigation, even after this sometimes the husband has become angry. There have also been times when husbands have become very aggressive. Sometimes the patient has also had to see anger, because the women of the village or the backward area are not aware. Dr Himanshu Rai says that when he was studying in class 8, the foundation of becoming a gynecologist was laid. One day the news of the first test tube baby in the world was published in the newspaper, only after reading this news Himanshu decided that he would also become an expert in test tube baby. When he was young, it was not known that for this he would have to study gynecologist. Had it been known, the shy innocent would not have made IVF as his ambition, but decided to fulfill what he thought. The doctor says that when the first test tube baby was born in the world in 1978, he was in Kolkata at that time and from there he decided to go into this field. At that time there was no IVF in India too, but he had thought that he had to do IVF only. Later it was found that it has to study gynecologist with infertility. MD with MBBS and MS.

Father’s dream was to become a cardiologist, son

Dr Himanshu says that the time has come and when he took admission in MBBS, at that time there was a lot of craze for surgery, radiology. Even at home, the parents used to think that he was just joking that he had to study gynecologist. Dr. says that he had to become a gynecologist to fulfill his dream, so he studied gynecologist even after getting matched.

After MBBS, when they passed in PG entrance, people felt that now it is time to take the subject, now it will take surgery. Himanshu’s father’s dream was to become a cardiologist, but Himanshu did not think towards another subject even after every option of studies, studied gynecologist. He had an interest in reproductive medicine, as he could do IVF under him. So he chose the only way.

Women used to run away from OPD after seeing male gynecologist

Dr Himanshu says that he had to leave the state for the study of gynecologist, because in the medical college in Bihar, when the doctor’s training period was there, female patients were not available at that time. Female patients used to come to the government hospital, but when the male doctor heard about the check, she would run away. The women of the village were too ashamed to get tested by many men.

Male gynecologists were rarely found during that period. There was a professor in Bihar, it used to happen with him that when his assistant lady doctor used to do OPD, there used to be a whole crowd, but when he used to come to check the women in OPD, the whole OPD patients would run away. There was complete silence.

Dr Himanshu says that seeing this he felt that it is impossible for Mel to study gynecologist. For this reason, he left Bihar and went to Gujarat to study. After going there, he came to know that all the successful gynecologists in Gujarat and Maharashtra are men. In such a place, there is no hesitation in female patients. He came to Bihar with an MD degree in Guinea from Gujarat itself. However, when we came to Bihar, challenges also came along.

Dr Himanshu says that in the initial period it was a bit strange to see and treat the private parts of the woman. Due to this many times challenges were also faced, when he first attended the caesarean delivery he fainted. A woman’s stomach was opened in front of her eyes and a child was taken out of it. He could not bear this scene and fainted. Life’s first caesarean delivery was and he was terrified to see it.

Lack of information not the fault of patients

Doctor Himanshu says that there are many patients who question the male gynecologist’s checkup, their parents also flare up. It’s not their fault, just lack of information. Many patients are not even aware that why breast examination is being done in the problem of the child. England is not the situation here like America, here they have to be examined first only after counseling.

Although there is not even enough time to explain to each and every female patient, there is also a lot of crowd. There is an OPD of 100 to 150 patients in a day. If every patient knew this in advance, she would not hesitate, if we feel that a female patient is hesitant, then we leave her. We have other female assistant doctors with us and show them and take reports. Sometimes they are sent to another doctor as well.

Earlier there was a big challenge in Bihar, now it has become a little easier

Dr Himanshu says that initially there was a lot of problem, people had to be explained. There was no facility of IVF but now people are feeling the need of it. Even today there is a shortage of male gynecologists in Bihar. There are one or two doctors in the state. Due to this the situation of Bihar has not changed, mainly women doctors in the state are in this area.

Right now there is no challenge in examining the woman, during the waiting period in the OPD, patients talk among themselves that only male doctors do the examination. For this reason, she is prepared in advance for every situation. I have been seeing female patients for 25 years, now it has become a habit.

We do not do treatment without the consent of the female patient. She agrees to check with the male doctor only then she is seen, if she hesitates then she is shown to the female doctor. The assistant doctor is also having a degree, she also looks after it.

Male doctors do more normal delivery

Dr Himanshu explains that delivery is a very complicated process. No one knows how many days it will take one or two or three days. It is also not certain what happens day and night, so there is some problem with the female doctor at any time. But even after this, female gynecologists are doing delivery in Bihar. He is responsible for the complete delivery. There is talk of a more normal delivery by mail, but there is no data on this. Dr Himanshu Rai says that it is a big deal for a male gynecologist that there is an OPD of 100 to 150 patients in Bihar.
