SUSPECTED killers of lawyer Juan Macababad have remained at large with the family of the victim alleging inaction of concerned government law enforcement agencies based in Region 12 (Soccsksargen).

Macababad was killed on Sept. 15, 2021.

His widow, Geraldine Macababad, said in an interview on Tuesday, September 27, they had identified the persons of interest in the fatal shooting of her husband before BGen. Alexander Tagum, former police regional director, and Exzel Hernandez, regional director of the National Bureau of Investigation, who have been handling the case.

For more than a year now since the killing of the lawyer in front of their house in Surallah town in South Cotabato, according to Geraldine, “nothing happened.”

Despite her family cooperating with investigators, she said, there has been “no progress” in the case as the killers continue to roam free.

Besides, according to the Macababad’s lawyer son Juan Paul Macababad Jr., they had provided information on the case to SMS Charles Wyne Sarcon Flores and MSg. Datu Sajed Muslim Clao, members of the Philippine National Police who are supposedly part of a task group probing the killing.

The family of the victim had sent a formal letter to Tagum and Hernandez requesting a meeting on the status of the case, but it is yet to get a response.

Geraldine noted that Justice Secretary Menardo Guevara, on Sept. 20, 2021, ordered a case build-up on the killing “but nothing happened as the case is still unresolved up to this time.”
