Siddaramaiah’s swearing-in may take place on Thursday. All 135 Congress MLAs are expected to meet on Thursday. Earlier, both Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar met party president Mallikarjun Kharge and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi separately in Delhi. The Congress won a landslide victory in the Karnataka Assembly elections on 10 May, ousting the BJP from power by winning 135 of the 224 seats. BJP was second with 66 seats and JD(S), which was expected to play the role of kingmaker, got just 19 seats.

Sources say that in view of the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Siddaramaiah has been given the post of Chief Minister. It is believed that Siddaramaiah has a good hold in the minority, OBC and Dalit communities. Congress does not want to take any risk right now.
