Hyderabad: The first match of the three-match ODI series was played between India and New Zealand (India vs New Zealand ODI Series) on 18 January. India won this match by 12 runs and took a 1-0 lead in the series. In this match, India’s opener Shubman Gill scored a double century while playing a stormy innings. Everyone was surprised to see Gill’s innings.
Shubman Gill played an inning of 208 runs in 149 balls. During this, 19 fours and 9 sixes came out of his bat. With this brilliant innings, Gill became the eighth batsman in the world and the fifth Indian overall to score a double century in ODIs. Gill was adjudged player of the match for this innings.

After the match was over, Shubman Gill made a big disclosure. He said that, he was not expected to score a double century. But after hitting two sixes in the 47th over, he believed that it could be done.
Shubman Gill said at the prize ceremony, ‘I was eagerly waiting to go out and show what I want to do. I wanted to bat freely as the wicket fell, but I am happy that I was able to bat like that in the end. Sometimes when the bowler is on top, you need to make him feel the pressure. There is a need to avoid dot balls, show some intent and hit the gap fast, which I was doing.
Shubman Gill further said, ‘Not really thinking about 200, but once I hit sixes in the 47th over, I felt that I can do it. Earlier, I was playing the balls that were coming at me. Ishaan Kishan is one of the best friends. I was there when he scored his ODI double hundred and it was special. It feels good when something you want to do happens on a regular basis. I am completely satisfied with this performance. The contest was much closer than I expected.
