    Saudi Gazette report

RIYADH — Saudi Arabian Military Industries (SAMI), a subsidiary of the Public Investment Fund (PIF), has joined hands with the Ministry of Defense and received support from the General Authority of Military Industry (GAMI) to embark on a groundbreaking initiative aimed at strengthening the nation’s defense capabilities. This momentous effort involves the inauguration of a new production line specifically dedicated to software-defined multi-band radio systems (SDRs).

SAMI’s latest collaboration is carried out in partnership with the globally acclaimed L3Harris Technologies, with the pivotal role of producing these cutting-edge radio systems locally in Riyadh being undertaken by SAMI-AEC. As a longstanding leader in electronic manufacturing capabilities, SAMI-AEC is set to manufacture these innovative radio systems as part of the joint venture between SAMI and L3Harris Technologies.

Eng. Walid A. Abukhaled, CEO of SAMI, expressed immense pride in this strategic partnership, which not only solidifies connections with the internationally acclaimed defense industry pioneer L3Harris but also exemplifies SAMI’s dedication to advancing local capabilities in this critical sector. Abukhaled emphasized the venture’s integral role in aligning with the Saudi 2030 Vision’s objective of localizing 50% of the Kingdom’s defense spending. He further highlighted the potential for heightened local content and an ongoing partnership with the Royal Saudi Land Forces, underscoring SAMI’s commitment to technological advancement and nurturing local talent.

Eng. Ziad Al-Musallam, CEO of SAMI-AEC, reaffirmed the company’s unwavering commitment to bolstering Saudi Arabia’s defense manufacturing landscape. Through strategic alliances, SAMI-AEC seeks to elevate the country’s capabilities in the defense sector and plans to broaden its collaborations even further. Al-Musallam emphasized that this approach seamlessly aligns with the vision of developing indigenous technologies tailored to the unique needs of the defense sector.

With the collaborative efforts of SAMI, L3Harris Technologies, and SAMI-AEC, the Saudi defense industries are set to experience a transformative boost, driving the nation closer to self-sufficiency in key areas of defence technology. This initiative resonates with Saudi Arabia’s drive to fortify its position as a global hub for advanced technological solutions in the defense domain.
