Municipal elections in Bihar were postponed due to EBC reservation. This election had to be postponed after the intervention of the Patna High Court. Now the Bihar government has filed a review petition in the Patna High Court regarding the EBC reservation case in the municipal elections. It will be heard on October 19.
Court guidelines were not followed
In the municipal elections of Bihar, the guide line of the court regarding the backward reservation was not considered. The commission announced the dates for the elections. Later, after the order of the Patna High Court, the State Election Commission has postponed the civic body elections. The Patna High Court had termed the Most Backward Reservation in the civic elections as wrong. The Bihar government was planning to move the Supreme Court against the decision of the High Court. But the government filed a review petition in the Patna High Court on Monday itself.
The order was passed on 4 October
According to the Urban Development Department, the order was passed by the Patna High Court on 4 October 2022. Reservation of extremely backward classes in urban bodies. Against this, a review petition has been filed by the state government in the Patna High Court. The High Court has fixed October 19 for hearing the matter.
Municipal elections were announced in Bihar. The Election Commission had prepared the entire schedule. The dates were announced. The election was to be held in two phases. Voting for the first phase was to be held on October 10, while for the second phase the voting was to be held on October 20.
But, earlier the EBC reservation was challenged in the court. It was argued that the order of the Supreme Court on reservation in this election has been violated. The triple test required for reservation was also not conducted. After the decision of the Patna High Court, the Bihar State Election Commission had postponed the municipal elections. After this, politics had also started in Bihar.
