Pak Rangers fired six to seven rounds on Border Security Force (BSF) personnel in Anupgarh sector near the India-Pakistan International Border in Sri Ganganagar district of Rajasthan, the BSF said on Friday night. However, a BSF spokesperson said that there was no report of any casualty or injury to the soldiers or farmers from the Indian side.
In a statement issued by BSF, it has been said that Pak Rangers first fired 6-7 rounds on BSF jawans at 2 pm in Anupgarh sector of Sriganganagar district of Rajasthan. At the time when the firing took place, BSF jawans along with five local farmers were present in front of the border security enclosure as farmer guards. Their objective was to rescue and protect five local farmers working in the fields.
In retaliation BSF ‘Kisan Guard’ fired around 18 rounds on Pak Rangers. No injuries or casualties of BSF or Indian farmers have been reported. The BSF has decided to lodge a ‘protest’ with its Pakistani counterparts and demanded a flag meeting on Saturday. The BSF official said that a protest is being registered and a flag meeting has been called.
A senior official said that it is a very unusual incident that Pak rangers fired in the Thar desert when Rajasthan is facing the international border and is also connected with Gujarat, Punjab and Jammu. India and Pakistan had resolved for a complete ceasefire on this front in February 2021. However, since then there have been one or two incidents of violation of this agreement, including one in the Jammu region in September this year. In September, Pakistani troops fired upon a BSF patrol in the Arnia sector.
