Orchha: Tourists from UP stranded in the flood of Betwa river, SDRF rescued them at night
Five tourists from UP Hamirpur were overwhelmed and lost their lives while having fun on an island inside the Betwa river in Bundelkhand’s famous tourist destination Orchha. After the rains in UP and the release of water from the Matatila Dam in the upper reaches of Orchha, the water level of the river suddenly increased and the tourists were stuck on the island in the middle of the river.
According to the Orchha police, five people from Uttar Pradesh Hamirpur had come to Orchha to visit Shri Ramraja Sarkar. These tourists had gone to bathe in Betwa river. Around 10 o’clock in the night, the water level of Betwa suddenly increased and five people including Prince father Ramsingh Rajput resident Boukhar, Mahesh father Krishna Kumar Rajput resident Gauhani, Akhil Kumar father Shibram Rajput resident Sikroda, Ram Kumar father Gopal Rajput resident Gauhani and Har Prasad Father Ramlal Ahirwar resident of district Hamirpur got stuck on the island behind the Sitlamata temple. Of these, three people were on an island and two people were stranded on a separate small island.
After informing the police, SDRF carried out rescue in the night.
The SDRF team was informed as soon as the police got information about the tourists being stranded in the middle of the Betwa river. Police force of Orchha police station and SDRF team reached the spot and efforts were started to save everyone. After two hours of hard work, all five were safely taken out of the river.
Water is released from Matatila Dam in Betwa
According to the SDRF team, due to the rapid flow of the river, there were problems in the rescue. He told that the rescue had to be done at night because there was no time till morning. If the water rises two to four feet in the river at night, then it would be difficult for the tourists to escape. Let us tell you that the Matatila Dam has been built on the Betwa river in Lalitpur area of UP. After this dam is full, water is released from here into the river. This is the reason why the water in Orchha rises suddenly.
