    There is such a Muslim family in Bagaha, in whose place Chhath Mahaparva is organized for the last four generations. The women of the house observe Chhath fast, leaving behind the restrictions of religion. This is the family of Hasmat Ali of Ward No 27- Bagaha Nagar. Family members tell that after the fulfillment of the vow three generations ago, Chhath fast started, which has now become a tradition here. Now as soon as Diwali is over, all the family members start preparing for Chhath.

    Have been doing Chhath fast for four generations
    Family members tell that three generations ago a man named Mohammad Ali fell ill. The doctors had answered. Chhath festival was going on, during this time Jameela Khatoon, wife of Mohammad Ali, prayed to Chhath Maiya for her husband’s recovery. Within a few days, Muhammad Ali got well. What was then, the very next year Jameela Khatoon started observing Chhath fasting with full law. After Jameela, Asma Khatoon, wife of Raja Ali of the same family, started observing Chhath fast. After him, Moti Jaan Khatoon Chhath, wife of Saiful Ali, observed Chhath fast. Now Hasmat Ali’s wife Kamarul Nesha of this family is doing the fasting ritually.

    After Diwali, the whole family gets involved in the preparation of Chhath.

    Saiful Ali’s family has been living in Ward No 27 of Bagaha Nagar for many years. As soon as Deepawali ends, this family starts preparing for Chhath festival from the next day of Diwali itself, giving up consuming meat and fish. From chhoti chhath to big chhath everything is done methodically with bathing khaya to kharna puja. Here the prasad of Kharna is prepared methodically on an earthen stove. All the family members participate in this work.

    For the last few years, half a dozen Muslim women are doing Chhathvrat.
    Hussain Tara of this ward has also been observing Chhath fast for 4 years. Hussain tells Tara that her child had fallen ill. Prayed to Chhath Maiya to get well. After a few days the child was fine. Now for the last 4 years, Chhath Puja has been done methodically. Mohd, resident of Haluwaiya Patti village of Wahi Piprasi block. Sabir’s wife Khairun Nesha has been doing Chhath for 10 years, while Nebabu Khatoon, a resident of Ghodhawa, has been observing Chhath fast for the last 15 years.

    Usha Khatoon of Gobarhiya last 23 and Nuresha Khatoon of Gobarhiya village observes Chhath fast for last 7 years. Whereas Maroon Khatoon of Manjharia Khas village has been observing Chhath fast for the last two years. Asha Khatoon of Ghodhawa School Tola village has been observing Chhath fast since last eight years with full devotion. If someone’s lap is full in these women, then someone’s lap has been saved from getting destroyed. That’s why these women are observing Chhath fast.
