Sydney: Australia fast bowler Mitchell Starc believes he will have to bid adieu to the limited-overs format in the next phase of his career to pursue a Test career as his career in the red-ball format comes “first”. The 32-year-old left-arm bowler is one of the six players to play for Australia in all formats.

Starc took four wickets for 47 runs in the second ODI series against England on Saturday as Australia took an unassailable 2-0 lead. “Test will (always) be at the top,” Starc said. This format is way above the limited overs format. Starc is expected to play a key role in the team’s 2023 World Cup plans. He has also indicated his desire to play in the 2024 T20 World Cup to be held in West Indies and USA.

He said, “I will decide about the rest later. It also depends on how my body feels. I love playing and if the rhythm is right and I get selected in the team, I will continue to play Test cricket. The veteran bowler said it is almost ‘impossible’ for a player to play all three formats in today’s busy schedule.

He said, “It is almost impossible at this point of time to play every match as a player of all three formats.” To keep up with his workload, Starc has given up participating in the lucrative Indian Premier League (IPL) since 2015. (agency)
