PRESIDENT Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is considering three names to be his next press secretary following the resignation of lawyer Rose Beatrix “Trixie” Cruz-Angeles.
Lawyer Michael “Mike” Toledo, former broadcaster Gilbert Remulla and Transportation Undersecretary Cesar Chavez are said to be shortlisted for the position.
Toledo, former president Joseph Estrada’s press secretary, said he was open to accepting the position.
“I’m not in a position to dwell on it. But let me just say, given the opportunity to serve, why will I say no?” Toledo said during a chance interview.
“Who are we to say no? (Who am I to say no?) I will be humbled and it will be an honor and privilege to serve under the Marcos administration,” he added.
Chavez, for his part, admitted that he was offered the job but still “thinking about it.”
“I was already told a few days ago, I’m being considered,” Chavez told Palace reporters in a phone interview.
Asked if he is considering accepting the post, Chavez said, “I mentioned that my concentration is the rail sector. I said that I am not interested in the press office of Malacañang.”
“I am with (I am part of the) Marcos administration. I am a presidential appointee. What I mentioned is to give me the opportunity to process this offer and at the same time (What I said is I be given the chance to) process the offers and at the same time) if there’s a chance, discuss what can be done (I can discuss)s what I can do,” he added.
Chavez was a veteran broadcast journalist and station manager of dzRH before he was tapped to join the Department of Transportation as undersecretary for Railways. He also served as the chief of staff of former Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso.
Meanwhile, Chavez also disclosed that Remulla is among the personalities being eyed to be the next press secretary aside from Toledo.
Toledo served as spokesperson of former president Joseph Estrada. He is the head of the government relations and public affairs department of the Metro Pacific Investments Corporation.
Remulla is a member of the board of directors of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation.
