Lumpy Virus: States like Rajasthan, Punjab and Gujarat are badly affected by the spread of the lumpi virus, which has so far infected around 20,57,700 animals across the country. On the other hand, Uttar Pradesh has been successful in preventing the spread of this deadly disease among the big states. According to the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, so far 20,57,700 animals have been infected with this virus, while more than 97,000 animals have died.

64,000 animals died in Rajasthan

Among the states, Rajasthan is facing the worst with nearly 14 lakh animals infected with the virus so far, of which 64,000 have died. Rajasthan is followed by Punjab, which has 1,73,159 infected animals, of which 17,200 have died and the mortality rate is more than 10 per cent. So far 1,56,236 animals have been infected with this virus in Gujarat, out of which 5,544 have died.

66,333 animals are vulnerable in Himachal

Similarly, in Himachal Pradesh, 66,333 animals have been affected by the disease, out of which 2,993 have died, while in Haryana 1,941 animals out of a total of 97,821 animals have died. The number of infected animals in Jammu and Kashmir is 32,391, out of which 333 have died. Similarly, out of 26,024 animals infected with this virus in Uttar Pradesh, 273 animals have died. Officials said the Uttar Pradesh government’s efforts to contain the spread of lumpi disease are showing positive results. Compared to the six largest and most severely affected states, UP has emerged as the most successful state in containing the spread of the lumpi virus.

‘We are doing a regular evaluation by setting up Team 9’

Livestock and Dairy Development Minister Dharampal Singh said, as per the instructions of the Chief Minister, we are conducting a routine evaluation by setting up Team 9, Team 9 was formed during the outbreak of COVID. We have launched a significant treatment and vaccination effort. We have managed to keep the virus under control. 26 districts in the western part of the state are affected by lumpi disease. The swift and effective action by the Yogi government against the virus has resulted in a mortality rate of just 1 per cent, while 64 per cent of the infected animals have been cured. To protect the animals from this disease, the government is conducting regular vaccinations.

UP government devised a strategy to prevent the spread of the disease

To prevent the spread of this disease, the UP government has prepared a strategy, under which intensive vaccination is being done by making rings and belts. Belt-1 is 320 km long from Nepal to Madhya Pradesh, while Belt-2 is built in Bundelkhand region, spread over an area of ​​155 km. Priority is being given to vaccination of animals in villages and blocks adjoining the inter-state and inter-district border. As many as 1,126 teams have been formed for vaccination in the state, as a result of which about 50 lakh animals have been vaccinated. The government has set a target of 1 crore vaccines by October 10. More than 1.22 crore vaccine doses are available in the state.
