RIYADH — The Lawyers’ Disciplinary Committee at the Ministry of Justice has suspended a lawyer from practicing the profession for a period of one and a half years. The committee also decided to take legal procedures to hold the lawyer criminally accountable for the charges leveled against him.
These punitive measures were taken for insulting and defaming a company through a statement on his Twitter account. The committee found that this act was in violation of the legal system and the rules of professional conduct for lawyers.
The committee has also taken disciplinary punitive measures against four other lawyers who violated the legal system, its executive regulations, and the rules of professional conduct for lawyers.
It is noteworthy that the third rule of professional conduct for lawyers stipulates that the lawyer shall maintain the honor and prestige of the profession, and shall not act in a way that undermines people’s confidence in him or in the profession.
