    Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru
    The country’s first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru received his early education from private teachers at his home. At the age of fifteen he went to England, and after two years at Harrow, he entered the University of Cambridge, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in natural science. After returning to India in 1912, he directly joined politics.

    Gulzarilal Nanda
    Gulzari Lal Nanda received his education in Lahore, Agra and Allahabad. He worked as a research fellow on labor problems at the University of Allahabad (1920–1921) and in 1921 became Professor of Economics at the National College (Bombay).     Lal Bahadur Shastri
    Lal Bahadur Shastri studied at East Central Railway Inter College, Mughalsarai and Varanasi. He completed his graduation from Kashi Vidyapeeth in 1926.     Morarji Desai He received education from St. Busar’s High School and passed his matriculation examination. After graduating in 1918 from the Wilson Civil Service of the then Bombay Province, he served as Deputy Collector for twelve years.

    Chaudhary Charan Singh
    Chaudhary Charan Singh graduated in science in 1923 and obtained his master’s degree in 1925 from Agra University. Trained in law, Mr. Singh started his career from Ghaziabad. He came to Meerut in 1929 and later joined the Congress.

    Rajiv Gandhi
    Rajiv Gandhi spent most of his childhood with Shri Jawaharlal Nehru at Teen Murti Bhawan. After completing his education from Doon School, Mr. Gandhi went to Trinity College, Cambridge and Imperial College (London) for further studies, where he studied mechanical engineering. On returning home from England, he obtained a commercial pilot’s license and started working as a pilot for Indian Airlines.

    Vishwanath Pratap Singh
    Vishwanath Pratap Singh studied at Allahabad and Poona University. He was the President of the Student Union of Uday Pratap College, Varanasi in 1947-1948. Vishwanath Pratap Singh was also the Vice President of the Student Union of Allahabad University. In 1957, he played an active role in the Bhoodan movement.

    Chandra Shekhar
    Chandra Shekhar was attracted to politics from his student days and was known as an idealist with revolutionary fervor and hot temper. After doing his master’s degree in political science from Allahabad University (1950–51), he joined the socialist movement. He had the privilege of being very closely associated with Acharya Narendra Dev.

    PV Narasimha Rao
    PV Narasimha Rao did his studies from Osmania University, Hyderabad University, University of Mumbai and Nagpur University. Shri P.V. Narasimha Rao has three sons and five daughters.

    Atal Bihari Vajpayee
    Atal Bihari Vajpayee BA was educated at Victoria College (currently Laxmibai College) in Gwalior.
