Melbourne: England captain Jos Buttler has admitted that his team made a mistake against Ireland and is now under pressure to make it to the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup. England lost to Ireland by five runs by the Duckworth-Lewis method in a rain-hit match on Thursday. He defeated Afghanistan in the first match. Ireland, Sri Lanka, England and Australia now have two points each in the group and the competition for the top two places has increased.
Butler said after the match, “I think we played poorly in the first 10 overs and gave them a chance to dominate. We could not maintain consistency in our game and we gave them a chance to score runs on both sides of the crease. The other 10 overs were much better.” He said, “Ireland played a great game. We know we made a mistake and put more pressure on ourselves. Now if you need to do very well in a match to move forward, it will be an England vs Australia match.”
