Jharkhand News: A two-member committee probing the case of a Dalit girl who committed suicide in Jharkhand’s East Singhbhum district has submitted its report. The girl had attempted self-immolation after she was allegedly forced to remove her clothes by a teacher on suspicion of cheating in the examination. A senior official gave this information. District Deputy Commissioner Vijaya Jadav said the inquiry committee submitted its report on Sunday. The district authorities also handed over Rs 25,000 to the girl’s kin as compensation under the provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Jadav had on Sunday visited the burn unit of Tata Main Hospital, where the 15-year-old girl has been admitted.
Teacher took off clothes on suspicion of copying
Officials said that the officials will also ensure that his family gets the benefits of various government schemes. The Class IX student had said in a statement to the police that on October 14, on suspicion of cheating in the examination, the lady invigilator had her clothes taken off in a room adjacent to the class during the examination to find out that she had copied the slip on her own. The student had repeatedly denied copying. Her mother claimed that her daughter could not bear the humiliation and set herself on fire shortly after returning from school. Police said the accused teacher has been arrested under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act and Juvenile Justice Act.
