Jammu and Kashmir: Residence notification issued, Jammu DC authorized all Tehsildars

It was said in this order that even if a person residing in Jammu district does not have any prescribed document to prove his residence, he can still get a voter ID card made in the district. Provided that he will have to get the certificate after getting it verified from the concerned Tehsildar.

However, there was no confirmation from the district administration to return the notification. When District Deputy Commissioner Avani Lavasa was contacted for information, he did not pick up the phone. News agency ANI has tweeted this information. On Wednesday, the order of the District Deputy Commissioner was opposed by many opposition parties including Congress.

The order of the Deputy Commissioner to make on-the-spot housing certificates to the Tehsildars to include the names of people residing in the district for more than a year in the voter list was withdrawn within 24 hours amid heavy pressure from the opposition. In fact, an order was issued on Tuesday that the Tehsildar of the concerned area should issue a residence certificate to the people living for more than a year after verification on the spot.

After this, on Wednesday, various political parties started opposing the order. Late in the night the order was withdrawn. In Jammu and Kashmir, a large number of people from outside states are living here for business and other reasons.

News agency ANI tweeted that DC Jammu has withdrawn the order of Tehsildars to issue domicile certificates to people who have been residing for more than a year. However, even after calling several times, there was no response from DC Avani Lavasa.

On the other hand, on the orders of the DC, the opposition parties started mobilizing from the morning itself. First of all, PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti tweeted that BJP is plotting to change demographics. After this Congress, NC, Democratic Azad Party also protested.

Opposition parties expressed apprehension that since outsiders are living here in large numbers. Because of this, this order has been issued to make them voters. Voter list preparation has started in Jammu and Kashmir from 15th September. This work will continue till October 25.

Sources associated with the election office said that no such provision has been made by the Election Commission to issue a residence certificate to the people living for one year. To be registered as a voter, seven types of documents are necessary for electricity, water and gas connection, Aadhar card, passbook-post office account, passport, farmer’s book-land document of revenue department, registered rentnama and registered sale deed.
