New Delhi: Once upon a time, scoring a century in a five-day Test match used to be a big deal in itself and batsmen used to score hundreds after playing hundreds of balls after a whole day’s batting. Today it is a situation that there are many centurions in ODI cricket and T20 also and now there is a competition among the batsmen to score maximum runs in minimum number of balls. The latest name in this series is Ishan Kishan, who has left behind many legends of world cricket by scoring the fastest double century in just 126 balls in the third match of the ODI series against Bangladesh.

Ishan Kishan scored a total of 210 runs in this one-day match against Bangladesh (India vs Bangladesh) played in Chittagong. He snatched the record of scoring the fastest double century from former West Indies batsman Chris Gayle. Gayle crossed the magic figure of double century by playing 138 balls in the match played against Australia in Canberra. It would be interesting to know here that Ishaan Kishan had not scored a century in ODI cricket before this innings. He played his first ODI against Sri Lanka in 2021 on the day of his anniversary on 18th July and started his blistering half-century with a six.

He is the first batsman to do so in the last 20 years. Earlier in March 2021, Ishaan Kishan scored a half-century against England in his first T20 match. In this way, he became the second batsman in the world and the first batsman in India to score a half-century in his debut match in ODI cricket and T20. The Indian Premier League has shown the way forward for many talented players of the country. Ishan Kishan made his IPL debut with the Gujarat Lions in 2016 at the age of 18 and played with the same team the following year as well.

In 2018, Ishaan joined Mumbai Indians and showed a foretaste of his future performances by scoring a 17-ball half-century in a match against Kolkata Knight Riders. Ishaan was born on 18 July 1998 in Patna. Seeing his elder brother Rajkishan playing cricket, he also started playing bat.

Ishaan faced many difficulties in his journey from Bihar to the Indian cricket team. It was only when his coach Uttam Majumdar saw him playing with Rajkishan. Majumdar saw something special in the left-handed Ishaan and advised his father Pranav Pandey to keep encouraging his children to play. His family moved from Patna to Ranchi so that he could get better cricket coaching. Although his mother was not ready for this, but on the advice of the coach, his father took the decision. At that time Ishaan was only 12 years old. The next few years were spent in grooming Ishaan’s talent.

In Ranchi, Ishaan was selected in the Steel Authority of India Limited team to play at the district level. At the age of 15, he was selected in Jharkhand’s Ranji team and seeing his excellent performance, he was made the captain of the Under-19 World Cup team in 2016. His achievements after that are part of the record books of cricket. Ishan Kishan’s cricket career is a golden tale of hard work, dedication and luck.
