Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) will find a cure for rare diseases with expensive treatment. For this, they are looking for a research group that can complete the research in the next two to three years and after that through clinical trials, not only the process of treatment but also medicines and new techniques of investigation will be developed. It is expected that this research will start in the coming year 2023.
Dr. Lokesh Sharma of ICMR said that there is a prevalence of inherited rare diseases in the population. The World Health Organization (WHO) defines these diseases as lifelong disorders with an incidence of one case per one thousand population. If we talk about treatment, it is no less than a surprise that only five percent of rare disorders have treatment and most of these are expensive and not available everywhere, while availability and access prevent and kill these diseases. There are important measures to reduce the rate.
According to ICMR program officer Dr Monika Pahuja, rare diseases include small molecule congenital defects, primary immunodeficiency disorders (PID), neuromuscular disorders (NMD), blood disorders (except sickle cell disease and thalassemia) and skeletal dysplasia. . Skeletal dysplasia is a disease in which a child’s bone, joints, and cartilage develop abnormally.
Nipah test kit was also found like Corona
Like Corona virus, ICMR has prepared ELISA test kit for testing Nipah virus in large population. Dr. Lokesh Sharma said that a medical study was done before preparing the test kit, in which it has been found to be 99.28 percent effective.
