    IND vs SL | Shivam Mavi said, I want a chance in the match against Sri Lanka to impress Hardik

    New Delhi: After recovering from injuries and proving himself in domestic cricket, fast bowler Shivam Mavi wants Indian captain Hardik Pandya to give him a chance in the upcoming home series against Sri Lanka so that Leave your mark.

    A week after Mavi was bought by Gujarat Titans for Rs 6 crore in the IPL mini-auction, he got another big news for his career when he got three matches against Sri Lanka in Mumbai starting January 3. Was included in the Indian team for the T20 match series. The 24-year-old fast bowler is confident that he will not disappoint Hardik.

    He said, “Hardik as a captain is very shrewd and a brilliant strategist. He knows when to bowl to whom and who to send up the order. I know it is not going to be easy for me but I am hopeful that I will get to play matches, perform in them and play regularly for India.”

    The journey to the national team has not been easy for Mavi, who has not been able to perform effectively for Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2022. Knight Riders bought Mavi for Rs 7.25 crore but he could only take five wickets in six matches at an economy rate of 10.31. Mavi then trained hard in the nets and impressed in limited-overs domestic competitions for Uttar Pradesh. He took 14 wickets in the Vijay Hazare Trophy after taking 10 wickets in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament.

    Mavi (Shivam Mavi) said, “I did not do anything different. I just hit hard at the nets. I know I can get pace so just focused on diversifying my bowling. It paid off as my performances were more consistent this year.” Mavi, who played a key role in India’s title triumph in the 2018 Under-19 World Cup along with Shubman Gill and Prithvi Shaw, said being patient paid off.

    Shivam Mavi said, “It is a great feeling and a proud moment to represent the country. Shubman and Prithvi made their debut for India before me but I know it all depends on timing. Everyone has his fate and his time comes. Mavi though was expected to get a good amount in IPL.

    He said, “Yes, I was expecting to get between Rs 5 to 6 crore. This is a reward for my consistent performance. I always wanted to be a part of Gujarat Titans as I heard their management is very good. Gujarat Titans have Hardik and (Ashish) Nehra, two of the smartest minds in the game.” (agency)
