New Delhi: A three-match ODI series is being played between India and Sri Lanka (India vs Sri Lanka ODI Series). The first match of this series was played in Guwahati. By winning this match, India has taken a 1-0 lead in the series. In the first match, Shubman Gill was included in the team in place of Ishan Kishan. Shubman Gill opened with Rohit Sharma. However, this decision of the captain surprised everyone. Because Gill was not in good form in the recent T20 series.
At the same time, Ishan Kishan scored a double century in his last ODI against Bangladesh. On one hand people were unhappy with this decision of Rohit Sharma. On the other hand, former Indian player Mohammad Kaif has supported Rohit Sharma’s decision to include Gill in the playing-XI.

Mohammad Kaif talks to Star Sports ahead of the second ODI. He said, “It was the right decision. He is feeding a better player. It is not that he is looking for left right combination. When Shikhar Dhawan used to play, he used to open. Because he was a good player and his record was excellent. Being a left-handed batsman, he was made to open.
Kaif further said, “He fed Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer. Gill has to be commended because he knows how to play in the environment. They know that Shikhar Dhawan has been kept out and Ishaan Kishan is sitting on the bench despite scoring a double century. But he won hearts with his stellar performance.”
It is known that Shubman Gill proved the decision of captain Rohit Sharma right. He scored an inning of 70 runs in 60 balls while opening in the first ODI. During this he hit 11 fours.
