In Phulwari Sharif, Patna, carrying the idol of Mother Goddess on his shoulder, took immersion in the pond located in the block premises after the city parikrama. This tradition has been going on for almost a 100 years. On Wednesday, Badi Devi Ji of Phulwari Sharif got up for immersion from Durga place and was kept at the middle of the crossroads. On this occasion, people of both the communities were present there and participated in the worship.
It is said that in the year 1925, during the British era, Motilal, the prominent freedom fighter of Phulwari Sharif, started Durga Puja here. At that time, Durga Puja used to be the center of attraction for the people around in a small place. Along with worship, Ramlila and many cultural programs were organized here for 9 days. For people coming from remote rural areas, the 10 days of Durga Puja used to be the center of joy and attraction. It is said that at that time the vehicles passing through bullock carts used to donate bricks for the temple here with their vehicles. From that, the Durga place of Phulwari Sharif Patna market has become the center of faith of the people by becoming a huge temple today in a grand form. On the occasion of Navratri Puja, after organizing for 10 days, a grand ceremony of girl worship and immersion is organized on the day of Maha Navami.
After two consecutive years of Corona period, a grand ceremony of worship was organized here this year. The people of the worship committee believe that this tradition is going on from the east, which has been maintained by the people till date.
This year, 32 Kahars, who came from remote rural areas, carried the idol of Maa Durga on their shoulders and ritually immersed it in the pond located in the block premises after the city parikrama. To see this scene, women, men and children from remote rural areas joined the immersion puja.
