Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that preparations are being made to start 5G services in the country next month. This is the fifth generation mobile network which can transmit data at very high speed. 5G services are likely to be around 10 times faster than 4G. The telecom department had received total bids of around Rs 1.50 lakh crore in the recently held spectrum auction. The department had initially estimated revenue of Rs 80,000-90,000 crore from this. Gautam Adani-led Adani Group also participated in this auction. Adani Group has recently entered the telecom sector.
Recently, the government has made telecom companies in service quality. Improvement was asked to do. Vaishnaw has assured to increase the reforms in this sector. However, at the same time, he said that the industry should also improve the quality of service while fulfilling its responsibility. He encouraged telecom companies and infrastructure providers to work fast for this. He said that efforts cannot be from one side and there should be a reaction from the other side as well. Vaishnaw said that the 5G journey in the country will be exciting.
For this, the government has given a target of 80 percent coverage in a short period. Vaishnaw had pointed out, “It took years to reach 40-50 per cent coverage in many countries. We are targeting an aggressive timeline. We should achieve at least 80 per cent coverage in a very short period of time.”
