Earlier on Tuesday, China blocked the proposal of India and the US to list Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist Shahid Mehmood as a global terrorist.
At the same time, this is the fifth time in five months this year that China has blocked an Indo-US proposal to designate terrorists on the banned list. The Indian Home Ministry, in a notification on April 8 this year, declared Hafiz Talha Saeed, the son of Lashkar-e-Taiba chief Hafiz Mohammad Saeed and Lashkar-e-Taiba’s cleric wing chief Hafiz Talha Saeed, as a terrorist under the provisions of the UAPA Act 1967. . The ministry had said in the notification that it has been involved in spreading jihad against the interests of India in western countries and Afghanistan.
According to the notification, 46-year-old Hafiz Talha Saeed is actively involved in the acts of recruiting operatives, raising funds and planning and carrying out attacks in Lashkar-e-Taiba to target Indian interests in India and Afghanistan. . It also said that he also regularly visits various Lashkar-e-Taiba bases in Pakistan and makes statements calling for waging jihad against Indian interests in India, Israel, the US and other western countries.
Hafiz Saeed was the mastermind of the 26 November 2008 terrorist attack in Mumbai. 166 people were killed in this attack. He was declared a terrorist under the same law a few years back and is currently serving a prison term in Pakistan on terrorism-related charges. India has been continuously demanding the custody of Hafiz Saeed, but Pakistan has refused to hand him over.
