RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav is going to Singapore for kidney transplant. His daughter Dr. Rohini Acharya is giving him kidney. There are many misconceptions among common people regarding kidney transplant. To overcome this, Bhaskar talked to Dr. Satyajit Singh. Question- Most of the people believe that donating kidney causes weakness in the body as well as other problems?

answer- One is said to have kidney failure when both the kidneys stop working. Kidney transplant is the right treatment for kidney treatment. For some reason, the heart does not allow the lungs or if the BP is not under control, then they are taken to dialysis.

Usually, those whose BP is fine, there is no diabetes or is under control and their GFR goes below 15, then they should be taken for transplant without dialysis. In our country, donation is done by family members. It has to match the blood group.

One kidney from a brain dead person can save two lives. In this blood group as well as tissue match has to be done. If a family member donates a kidney, the patient’s survival rate is 10 years in 95% of cases.

Question- Can the donor (Dr. Rohini Acharya) have any effect on their health?

answer- There will be no effect at all. 10% of the world’s people are born with a single kidney and live a well-lived life. Later ultrasound is done for some reason, then it is found that there is only one kidney.

Question- For how long can both the kidney taker (Lalu Prasad) and the kidney donor (Rohini Acharya) have to stay in the hospital?

answer- Earlier, when the open operation was done, the kidney donor had to stay in the hospital for 10 days. But now the kidney is removed by laparoscopic method, in which one has to stay in the hospital for three to four days. After that the donor can go home. To remove the kidney with laparoscopic surgery, a hole is made in four places and one stitch is done in four places. It also has less chance of infection. It has quick recovery and less pain.

Question- What precautions will the donor (Rohini Acharya) have to take?

answer- Do not lift heavy weights for three months after the wound is dry. If cough occurs, medicine has to be taken immediately, because hernia can occur in the hole through which the kidney is removed. After three months they can do every normal activity. If one kidney is removed, the amount of kidney increases in the other kidney. One kidney does the work of both kidneys.

Question- How many days will the transplant patient have to take the medicine?

answer- Three medicines will run in the first three months. Then two medicines will last for six months. After this there will be maintenance with a medicine. For three months until the wound dries up. Live at home. Outdoor activities are prohibited.

You can do out activity after three months. Yes, blood pressure and diabetes have to be controlled. You have to keep yourself away from the dirty environment. Wearing a mask will have to be done in dusty places. You have to take less amount of protein in the food. Will continue to take normal diet.

Question- I am asking once again that it is in people’s mind that before going to dialysis, should a kidney transplant be done?

answer- As we said, the cure for kidney failure is transplant. Dialysis is not a permanent cure. Those who are not getting a donor and have any kind of problem, they go to dialysis and get the transplant done late. The health care of a country is considered by how many patients there undergo dialysis and how many transplants.

Transplants are more in developed countries but dialysis is happening more in our country. Those on dialysis can become victims of infection at any time. Dialysis has to be done thrice or twice a week. The patient suffers a lot, in such a situation, kidney transplant gets relief from the problem and permanent treatment is also done.

Question- One last question – are men or women ahead in donating kidney?

answer- According to my experience, women are ahead in giving kidneys to their children. In our hospital, many mothers have saved the lives of their daughters by donating their kidneys.

Mulayam Singh Yadav dies of kidney failure: Lalu Prasad also has kidney disease, more deadly than AIDS

Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav passed away at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram. According to doctors, his kidney had failed. His Cree Tannin level had increased significantly.
