Cricket Selection Committee: After the humiliating defeat of the Indian team in the T20 World Cup, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken a big decision. According to the information, the board has given leave to the entire selection committee including chairman Chetan Sharma. Apart from Chetan Sharma, Harvinder Singh, Sunil Joshi and Debasish Mohanty Sharma were members of the selection committee. Let me tell you, in the T20 World Cup played in Australia, Team India, captained by Rohit Sharma, was out of the tournament after losing to Jos Buttler’s England by 10 wickets at the Adelaide Oval. Chetan Sharma had announced the squad for India’s tour of New Zealand and Bangladesh through a video press conference a few days back.

Chetan Sharma became the chairman of the selection committee in October 2020. He had replaced Sunil Joshi. India won several series during his tenure, but failed to perform well in major tournaments. Team India’s poor performance in the Asia Cup had disappointed the cricket fans.

Now new selection committee will be recruited

Meanwhile, BCCI has invited applications for the appointment of national selectors. A total of five posts are to be appointed. The last date to apply is 28 November. This has been claimed in media reports. However, official information has not been received from BCCI yet. Team India is currently on a tour of New Zealand where three T20s and three ODIs are to be played. After this the team has to go on Bangladesh tour. Many senior players of the team have not gone on the New Zealand tour.

Who can become the chairman or member of the selection committee:

    • who has played at least 7 test matches
    • Experience of 30 first class matches or
    • Must have played 10 ODIs and 20 first class matches
    • Applicant must have retired before 5 years.
