CPI MP targets BJP
Bridge Collapse: A major accident took place in Gujarat’s Morbi city on Sunday. Due to the breakdown of the cable bridge here, new lives were absorbed in the river. So far 70 people have died in this accident. Now these figures may increase further. Communist Party of India (CPI) leader Binoy Viswam hit out at the BJP over the accident and claimed that it indicates the gross negligence of the state government.
‘Points to the gross negligence of the BJP government’
A century-old cable bridge over Machhu river collapsed around 6.30 pm on Sunday as it was reopened after repairs four days ago and a large number of people gathered on the bridge. Vishwam tweeted, “The collapse of the cable bridge in Gujarat indicates the gross negligence of the BJP government. It was said to be repaired five days ago. Where did the contractors get this courage? Need to increase the compensation.” There should be a credible investigation for disclosure of political nexus in this.”
Announcement of compensation for the families of those who lost their lives
At the same time, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced an ex-gratia of two lakh rupees each for the families of those who lost their lives in the accident. According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), PM Modi also spoke to Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and other officials regarding the incident. According to the PMO, he asked for immediate deployment of rescue teams for rescue operations.
A large number of people were present on the bridge on the occasion of Chhath here.
Significantly, this bridge was reopened to the public on 26 October on the occasion of Gujarati New Year. Earlier, a private operator had done the repair work of the bridge for about six months. On Sunday evening, a large number of people had reached here with their families on the occasion of Chhath. Apart from this, due to the opening of the bridge after so long, people had also reached here to take pictures and selfies.
