New Delhi. Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) chief selector Chetan Sharma on Tuesday found himself embroiled in a controversy for allegedly revealing matters related to selection issues in a TV channel sting operation. The BCCI recently appointed Chetan as the chairman of the selection committee for the second time.

Earlier, he was dropped after the poor performance of the Indian team in the T20 World Cup played in Australia. Chetan Sharma has been shown in Zee News sting operation attacking players like Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah. He has also reportedly disclosed conversations with coach Rahul Dravid and Virat Kohli.

Sharma alleged that despite being 80 to 85 per cent fit, players take injections to make a quick return to competitive cricket. The former India pacer also alleged that there were differences between him and the team management over Bumrah’s return for the T20I series against Australia in September.

Bumrah is currently out of the team and is unlikely to feature in the four-Test Border Gavaskar Trophy and subsequent three-ODI series against Australia.

Sharma also alleged that there was an ego battle between former captain Virat Kohli and former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly. When PTI contacted Sharma, he was not available for comment. It is learned that the BCCI is looking into the matter as the national selectors are under contract and are not allowed to speak to the media.

A senior BCCI official told PTI on condition of anonymity, “BCCI secretary Jay Shah will decide on Chetan’s future. The question arises whether T20 captain Hardik Pandya or ODI and Test captain Rohit Sharma would want to sit in the selection meeting with Chetan knowing that he can reveal internal discussions.
