Uttarakhand Politics: The Congress has accused BJP MLA from Uttarakhand Banshidhar Bhagat of hurting religious sentiments by his recent remarks on Hindu deities. A group of saints have also appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to take action in the matter of their remarks against Bhagat, the former BJP state president of Uttarakhand.
MLA Bhagat used the word ‘Patao’
Addressing an event on International Girl Child Day in Haldwani on Tuesday, Kaladungi MLA Bhagat had used the word ‘Patao’ and said, “The person is blessed with Goddess Saraswati for education, Goddess Durga for power and Goddess for wealth.” Lakshmi has to be appeased. There is nothing left for the gods except Lord Shiva who lives in the Himalayas and Lord Vishnu who lives in the deep sea.”
‘The sentiments of Hindus have been hurt by Bhagat’s remarks’
Congress spokesperson Garima Dasoni said that the sentiments of Hindus have been hurt by Bhagat’s remarks. “BJP should send a strong message by taking action against Bhagat, who has hurt the sentiments of Hindus by making derogatory remarks against Hindu gods and goddesses,” he said. Kali Sena chief Anand Swarup said that a case should be registered against Bhagat for insulting Hindu deities.

Swarup said, “BJP should shun such leaders. Bhagat (which means bhakt) may be part of his name, but his remarks are like ‘Chandal’. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami should intervene in the matter. “
