Assam News: In Assam, the officer-in-charge of Moran police station in Dibrugarh district and a sub-inspector have been suspended for allegedly beating up some people. Dibrugarh Additional Superintendent of Police Bitul Chetia said that departmental proceedings would also be initiated against the two officers. “In-charge officer Bijoy Daimary and sub-inspector Bhaben Dutta were suspended yesterday for their role in the incident. He will remain suspended till the results of the departmental inquiry are out.”

Superintendent of Police Bitul Chetia said that the other two people involved in the attack who were not from the police force were arrested but got bail from the local court. According to official sources, tourism entrepreneur Gyandeep Borgohain (35) of Sivasagar district and his team members were allegedly brutally tortured for several hours at Moran police station on October 7 and 8. The incident took place when they were returning from Arunachal Pradesh.
‘Use of force to confess to crime’
Daimary had alleged that his wife was molested at a restaurant on the night of October 7 by people returning from ‘Zero Festival of Music’. He had said on the morning of October 8, “I agree, we had to use some force to get him to confess.” On the other hand, Borgohain and others alleged that the police officers, along with two commoners, parted ways with their team. They were sexually assaulted and tortured with weapons and sticks for several hours. Several organizations condemned the incident.
