Digital Desk, Kathmandu. The makers of Adipurush have written to Kathmandu Mayor Balen Shah expressing concern over the ban on screening of the controversial film based on the Hindu epic Ramayana in cinemas in Nepal’s capital.
The film has stirred controversy in Nepal and India regarding its plot and dialogues.
On 15 June, the mayor warned that no Indian film would be allowed in Kathmandu if the film, written and directed by Om Raut and produced by T-Series and Retrophiles, did not correct a mistake about Sita’s birthplace.
In its letter to Balen Shah, sent on Sunday, T-Series said, “If we have hurt the sentiments of the people of Nepal in any way, we would like to apologise…it was never intentional.” Wasn’t meant to hurt anyone.
The letter, accessed by IANS, further said that as Indians, the respect of women across the world is of utmost importance to us.

A day after the Mayor’s warning, all cinemas in Kathmandu stopped screening Adipurush for security reasons.
The mayor called for a protest against the film on Sunday and urged cinema halls not to screen the film until the filmmakers rectified the alleged mistake.
The Censor Board of Nepal has also decided to withdraw the permission for the film.
According to the Ramayana, Sita was born in Janakpur in Nepal and Lord Rama came and married her.
Apart from Mayor, some affiliates of various political parties have also opposed the film and warned that screening will not be allowed until the filmmakers rectify the mistakes.
