Office-bearers of film associations’ apex body FEFKA on Thursday expressed anger over the manner in which excise officials raided director Najim Koya’s hotel room.The incident took place on Monday night at Erattupetta in Kottayam district at the hotel where Koya and his crew were staying.
FEFKA General Secretary B. Unnikrishnan told the media here that the behavior of the excise officials was highly condemnable. Unnikrishnan said, they behaved as if they had found a bounty hunter. We have already complained to the Chief Minister as we are not against any compliance but it should be in a proper manner. Koya said that the team comprising around 15 to 20 excise officials treated me as if I was a criminal.
Koya said, I neither smoke nor consume alcohol. They were asking me where I had hidden the drugs. I was literally running after the officers who were checking my room and my belongings. I was really scared, so I ran after them like a madman. He treated me very badly. Actor, writer and director Koya said, after an intense search of more than two and a half hours, he told me to be careful. FEFKA said the raid was a conspiracy and expressed concern as the raiding team did not inspect other rooms where film personalities were staying.
An angry Unnikrishnan said, only Koya was targeted. The raids come at a time when, in April, key stakeholders of the Malayalam film industry expressed deep concern about the flow of drugs into the industry. State Culture and Film Minister Saji Cherian said the government would look into the matter seriously.
