CABUYAO CITY, Laguna: Two persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the Cabuyao City Jail died on Thursday because of diarrhea.
According to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), more than 80 PDLs are suffering from diarrhea due to the contaminated water supply inside the jail facility.
Based on the BJMP record, there were 28 active diarrhea cases as of Thursday.
Two inmates have died, five were under intravenous fluid treatment, and 52 were in the recovery stage.
BJMP spokesperson Xavier Solda, however, said that the diarrhea outbreak in the jail facility is now under control.
The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) provided the patients with oresol, metronidazole antibiotics, intravenous fluids and underpads.
The PRC also provided 10,000 liters of potable water and hydration bladders for the affected PDLs.
BJMP chief Allan Iral, meanwhile, instructed their health service and the warden of the Cabuyao City Jail to strictly monitor the health conditions of the PDLs.
