(UPDATE) LEGAZPI CITY: A motorized boat carrying 16 passengers encountered engine trouble and started to sink after it was hit by big waves near Rapu-Rapu Island in Albay on Friday morning.
LtCol. Maria Luisa Calubaquid, police regional spokesperson, said the waves were big and the stalled seacraft was overwhelmed with sea water.
Luckily, she said, the passenger vessel RMLC 1 was just nearby and its crew and some personnel from the Rapu-Rapu Municipal Police Station who happened to be on board the passing vessel immediately rescued the passengers.
The rescued individuals were identified as Desiree Ebuenga Benitez, Jayjay Benitez Ebuenga, Quiny Madrona Mutya, Jay Marie So, Jenifer Vibal, Angelique Ramos, Marites Binalla, Girlie Joy Andes, Jasle Map Andes, Milagros Bitare, Analiza Echane, Annie Echane, Rommel Barcelona , Lerna Cotorno, Christopher Ebuenga and Rogelio Barcelona Jr.
All rescued passengers were brought to the Port of Barangay Bagaobawan, Rapu-Rapu, Albay, for immediate medical assistance.
