HANGZHOU — In a remarkable achievement, 18-year-old Saudi Jiu-Jitsu prodigy Omar Nada has emerged as the youngest athlete in the Saudi delegation to secure a bronze medal at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou.
Nada’s historic win not only adds to Saudi Arabia’s growing medals tally, but also establishes him as the youngest Saudi player to ever clinch a medal in the history of the Games.
The young athlete’s journey to the podium included impressive victories over international opponents, culminating in a third-place finish in the 85kg category.
Nada secured victory over Kyrgyzstan’s Abdulrahman Haj in the third-place playoff.
Nada’s journey to the bronze began with a dominant 12-0 win over Tajikistan’s Rahim Khudof, ranked 40th globally, in the round of 32.
He then defeated Kazakhstan’s Rassul Israilov 3-0 in the round of 16.
In the quarterfinals, he claimed victory over Kyrgyzstan’s Rassul Sajdivev on an advantage after a 0-0 draw, securing his spot in the semifinals where he faced a 0-2 defeat against the UAE’s Faisal Al-Ketbi.
Meanwhile, in karate, Saudi athlete Faraj Al-Nasheri concluded his participation in the Games with a loss to Jordan’s Mohammad Al-Jaffar in the round of 16 in the 84kg category, with a score of 5-1.
