The Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court has banned the engagement of Anganwadi workers for other work including elections. The court has sent a copy of its order to the Chief Secretary so that he can issue necessary instructions to the concerned District Magistrates. It is to be known that there are 1.89 lakh Anganwadi workers in the state.

A single bench of Justice Alok Mathur gave this decision on a petition filed by Manisha Kanojia and another. The petitioners said that they are working as Anganwadi workers in Anganwadi Center City Guleria Garda in Barabanki district.

He has been engaged by the administration in the duty of Booth Level Officer (BLO) in the local body elections. This is against the orders and instructions of the Central and State Governments. This deployment will affect the health care system of children and mothers in the area. The petitioners argued that other village level personnel can be engaged in the work of elections.

On the other hand, on behalf of the DM and other parties, it was said that the work of election is of paramount importance. In such a situation, all the officers have to cooperate in this. On this, the court said that the work of these workers is of great importance. Duty in their election or any other work will have a serious impact on the health of women, pregnant and others. With this remark, the court issued its order.
