Due to the troubled rains, the overflowing Rapti river is wreaking havoc in Shravasti and Balrampur districts. In both these districts as well as in Bahraich, the overflowing Saryu water has so far engulfed 607 villages. During this, four people died in Shravasti and three people drowned in Bahraich on Saturday after being hit by flood waters. On the other hand, three teenagers were washed away in the strong current of flood water in Shekhanpurwa village of Laliya police station area of Balrampur on Saturday afternoon. The people of the village somehow tried to save one from drowning while two teenagers are still missing.
The floods in Rapti have affected two lakh people in 122 villages of Shravasti district. Of these, the administration has so far evacuated 7,238 people to a safer place. The crop of about 93,151 hectares of land has also been affected in this flood. The floods in Rapti left behind many of its records this time. Due to this the river reached its highest water point level at 129.95 meters by 12 noon on Saturday.
During this, Jameela’s wife Israel, a resident of village Madhyanagar of Sonwa police station area, suddenly drowned and died. Daddan (42) son of Ramtirth, resident of Keshwapur of Bhinga Kotwali area, died due to drowning while crossing the path of flood water and Brijlal (40) son of village Durgapur KP resident of Bhukhan. All the bodies have been recovered and sent to Bhinga for post-mortem. At the same time, Badalal (25) son Samaydeen, resident of Janki Nagar Khurd of Ikauna, died due to snake bite.
The water of the booming Rapti river has engulfed 355 villages including Balrampur town. Of these, about 150 villages have become islands. The movement of light vehicles has also been stopped due to water coming on National Highway 730. Along with SDRF and PAC, NDRF has also been called for rescue. Alam (17), Dildar (15) and Zeeshan (13) were suddenly swept away by a strong current while bathing in flood waters in Shekhanpurwa village of Laliya police station area on Saturday afternoon. The people around tried to get Dildar out safely. But Alam and Zeeshan are missing.
On the other hand, the Saryu river has assumed a rough form in Gaighat and Khairighat (Bahraich). have taken. More than 80 villages and settlements of Mihinpurwa tehsil have also been engulfed by flood water due to the incessant rains on the mountains of Nepal, due to the release of lakhs of cusecs of water from the barrages. At the same time, more than 50 villages and habitations of Nanpara and Mahsi tehsils have also been caught by the flood waters. Milan (52) resident of Majra Kallugaudhi of Kudwa, village panchayat of Mihinpurwa, also got washed away in the strong current of water near the pond on Saturday, while a youth resident of Ramgaon police station area of Mahsi died. In Majre Paranapur Tepra of village Badhauli under Kaiserganj police station, a girl who went for defecation on Saturday morning died by drowning in a pond.
The bridge located near Raibojha on the National Highway connecting Bareilly to Delhi with the water of the booming river also suddenly collapsed on Saturday morning. The district and police officials, who reached the information, stopped the traffic and started the repair work. Due to the damage of the bridge, there was a traffic jam of several kilometers on both sides towards Bahraich and Lakhimpur. In Barabanki also beyond the river Saryu is in spate. The water of the river continues to rise even after reaching 36 cm above the danger mark. Due to the worsening of the situation, seven houses were washed away due to the strong current of the river, while more than three dozen villages have been flooded with river water.
