Consumers of smart prepaid meters in the state will get a real time breakup on deducting money from November 15. The power company headquarters has given the task to EDF, a French company that installs smart prepaid meters.
Principal Secretary of the department, Sanjeev Hans said that the functioning of smart prepaid meters is improving after constant pressure. The biggest problem of the consumers is not getting the information about the money being deducted.
The EESL and the EDF, which installed the meter, have been instructed to give the information of the deducted money in the form of breakup. He said that the second problem of the consumers was not getting the welcome message in three days. It has improved.
Now 86 percent of the consumers are getting the welcome message in three days. Similarly, there has been some speed in the work of replacement of non-communication meters. But, the meter of more than 5600 consumers is not connecting to the server. The task has been given to fix it by October 30.

Complain about balance deducted on 1912
The Principal Secretary said that smart prepaid meters have been installed in the premises of 10.81 lakh consumers in urban areas of the state. A target has been set to install 3 lakh more smart prepaid meters by the end of December. If the information about the deducted balance is not available through the electricity bill or through the app, then call the helpline number 1912 of the electricity company and file a complaint. Information will be made available after resolving this.
Preparing to give exemption on fine for six months. The power company has filed a petition with the Bihar Electricity Regulatory Commission for not charging the fine for six months to the consumers of smart prepaid meters for consuming more than the permissible load. At present, for consuming more load than the sanctioned load, double the amount has to be paid as fine.

Smart prepaid customers have started getting 36% annual benefit. Because, in Smart Prepaid, the amount has to be recharged through online first. Whereas, due to non-payment of electricity bill in postpaid meter on time, most of the consumers are deprived of taking advantage of the discount. There is a provision of giving 3 percent discount on online recharge.

The power company has tendered to install 36 lakh smart prepaid meters in rural areas. It will start from November. 26 lakh in rural areas of Muzaffarpur, Bhagalpur, Sitamarhi, Motihari and other districts of North Bihar and 10 lakh smart prepaid meters will be installed in rural areas of Bhagalpur area of South Bihar.
Under the new provision, consumers of rural areas will get an opportunity to make complaints online. Ticket will be generated on complaint. Tracking can be done.
