The Russian Defense Ministry has released a video introducing its new bomb. This bomb is being used by the Russian Air Force. The name of this aerial bomb is FAB-3000. A new guidance system has been installed in this bomb. It does not fall straight like the old bombs. Rather it moves towards the target while floating in the air.
This is a very accurate and devastating bomb. A new Unified Module of Planning and Correction (UMPK) has been installed in it. It is a wing with a navigation system. Which provides direction and speed to the bomb in the air. Russia is dropping this bomb in Ukraine through its Air Force’s Su-34 bomber.
Some people are also calling it the Russian version of the American bomb JDAM-ER. UPMK is a special kind of guidance system, which is a combination of inertial navigation and satellite navigation. This means that this bomb can be dropped even in slightly bad weather. The wings of the bomb are folded initially. They open after firing.
This bomb moves towards the target while floating in the air
Then the bomb is floated in the air and taken towards the target. This bomb weighs three tons. It is filled with half its weight in TNT. It can be fired towards the target from a distance of 70 km. Even if it falls 300 feet away from the target, the target will be completely destroyed. Because its explosion is very dangerous.
Out of range of Ukraine’s defense system
This bomb is far beyond the reach of Ukraine’s short-range air defense system. FAB-3000 was made in Soviet times. It is a general purpose high-explosive aerial bomb. It weighs 3000 kilograms. This bomb is about 13.8 feet long. Its diameter is 2.1 feet.
1400 kg explosives in a 3000 kg bomb
It contains a mixture of dangerous explosives. It is filled with Tritonol. That is, TNT and aluminum powder. This increases the power of the explosion. Many types of fuses can be installed in it. That is, the fuse is installed based on the target and the type of explosion. This bomb contains about 1400 kilograms of high-explosive material. The explosion radius of this bomb has been very large.
