Risk to newborns and pregnant women due to burning of old batteries: Shocking results of Mahavir Cancer Institute’s pilot research

Public burning of lead from used batteries has a significant impact on the lives of infants and children born to pregnant women. In the course of pilot research of Mahavir Cancer Institute, many shocking results have emerged from it. After this, the research department of Mahavir Cancer Institute has started research on this in collaboration with a trust in America. Professor Ashok Kumar Ghosh, in-charge of the research department of Mahavir Cancer Institute and chairman of the pollution board, believes that lead gas is being released from the used old battery by burning it in public. This lead gas is proving fatal especially for children and pregnant women.

Professor Ghosh is of the opinion that apart from the batteries used in the vehicles, the lead taken out of the discarded batteries, including the inverters in the homes, are burnt publicly, which is very dangerous and dangerous. Apart from the infants, the harmful effects of the gas coming out of this fall on the children growing in the womb of pregnant women. Children born with this lead gas are mentally weak as well as crippled and there is a lot of reduction in their growth.

The research department of Mahaveer Cancer Institute has started research on this in association with the Vital Strategies Institute of America after many shocking results came out in a pilot research a few months back. He told that destroying old batteries in public is against the pollution rules. They will draw the attention of the government to this cruel method.

Dr. Arun Kumar of Research Department said that in the first phase, samples of 800 infants and pregnant women will be taken from 8 districts including Muzaffarpur, West Champaran, Purnia, Gaya, Nawada, Bhagalpur, Patna, Gaya and Vaishali. He told that after getting the result, he will hand over its report to the government and by drawing the attention of the government to this cruel method, demand to somehow stop burning it in public.
