About 100 Punjabi youths who went to work in a private company in Abu Dhabi in connection with employment have been trapped there. They have been removed from work but passports are not being given back. Because of this he is unable to return home. Social activist Dilbag Singh has written a letter to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann requesting them to help the youth.
Dilbagh, a resident of Benapur village, said in a letter to External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar that Square General Contracting Company Abu Dhabi has fired the youths. The passports of the youths have been confiscated by the company. The youths are upset due to non-receipt of passport and are unable to return to Punjab.
The External Affairs Minister has been requested to take up the matter with the UAE authorities by instructing the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi. Dilbag Singh told that most of the youths have applied online to return to India but they do not have passport. The parents of the youths are ready to pay for the air tickets but the company is not returning the passports.
Singh has urged the Center to intervene in the matter and open a ‘help desk’ there. Singh has also appealed to Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann for help in this matter by sending a copy of the letter to the Punjab Chief Minister’s Office. Dilbagh told that the family members of Punjabi youth have contacted him and informed him about the whole incident. After this, he has brought the matter to the notice of the Central and Punjab Government.
