For the MCD elections, the candidates arrived to file their nominations with a large convoy of vehicles. Many vehicles like open Jeep, Thar, Scorpio, Gaje Baje, DJ were also included in his convoy. After filing the nominations, the candidates laden with flower garlands were coming out, playing drums. There was huge crowd at the enrollment centers throughout the day. The State Election Commission had directed to make arrangements for parking, toilets, drinking water, seating at the enrollment centres, but the chaos was clearly visible here. Due to overcrowding at the enrollment centres, the nearby roads were also blocked.
Three enrollment centers were set up at the East Delhi District Officer’s office located on the Shastri Nagar Yamuna Dam. Here the candidates of New Ashok Nagar, Mayur Vihar Phase-1, Trilokpuri, Kondli, Ghadoli, Kalyanpuri, Mayur Vihar Phase-2, Patparganj, Vinod Nagar and Mandawali wards filled their forms. The two main gates of the District Magistrate’s office were closed for the purpose of controlling the crowd and continuing with the rest of the work. A door was opened for the candidates on the way towards Geeta Colony. Heavy police force and civil defense personnel were deployed around the enrollment centre.
Entry of candidates after scrutiny
The candidates were reaching the enrollment centers with a crowd since morning. After checking the papers of the candidates, they were allowed to go inside. As the crowd increased inside, many candidates had to wait outside. The crowd of supporters was stopped on the main road. Three layer barricading was done on the main road. The vehicles were parked on the road as there was no parking arrangement on the spot, due to which the main road was blocked. Candidates filled their papers on Monday with similar overcrowding at 68 enrollment centers including Narela SDM Office, Burari SDM Office, Gulabi Bagh, Azadpur, Alipur Kanjhawala, Kapashera, RK Puram.

Aam Aadmi Party’s candidates were at the fore in filling the papers. According to the personnel posted at the enrollment center, most of them reached early in the morning and enrolled first. Till 3 o’clock in the evening, the candidates of almost all the parties were still coming for the nomination. At around 1.30 pm, 130 candidates from ten wards had filed their nominations.

Former mayor of East Delhi Shyam Sundar Agarwal, who reached the nomination center, said that he had already announced not to contest the MCD elections this time. But in East Delhi, this time the BJP has fielded strong candidates in all 61 wards. Of these, two-thirds will come out victorious.
