Rahul Gandhi got a big blow from the Gujarat High Court

The Gujarat High Court has dismissed a review petition seeking suspension of Rahul Gandhi’s sentence in a defamation case. The court has refused to stay Rahul’s sentence. Dismissing Rahul Gandhi’s petition, the Gujarat High Court judge said that there are already 10 criminal cases against him. No injustice is being done to them by this punishment.

Gujarat High Court’s strict comment on Rahul

The judge, while hearing Rahul Gandhi’s petition, said that at least 10 criminal cases are pending against him (Rahul). Even after the present case, some more cases have been registered against him. One such case has been filed by the grandson of Veer Savarkar. No injustice will be done by conviction in any case. This conviction is just and proper. There is no need to interfere with the previous order of the Court, therefore, this application is dismissed.

Rahul will not return to Parliament for the next 6 years

This big blow to Rahul from the High Court means that Rahul will not return to Parliament for the time being. That means he will be barred from contesting elections for 6 years. Let us tell you that the Gujarat High Court has given its verdict in the Modi surname defamation case. Rahul had given an objectionable statement in an election rally on those with Modi surname. A case was registered against him and Rahul was punished. Due to this punishment, Rahul Gandhi’s membership of the Lok Sabha was canceled and he was also banned from contesting elections for the next 6 years.

Rahul Gandhi now has only two options

Against the decision of the Lower Court, Rahul Gandhi had filed a petition in the Gujarat High Court, on which the High Court has given this decision. The judgment comes from a single sell. Had the High Court changed the decision of the Lower Court and reduced Rahul’s sentence or suspended the sentence, his membership of the Lok Sabha would have been restored, but the High Court also upheld the lower court’s sentence, so Rahul’s membership of the Lok Sabha would not have been restored. He was reinstated and at the same time he would not be able to contest elections for the next six years. Today after the setback from the court, Rahul Gandhi has 2 more options. Firstly, they can appeal before a larger bench of the High Court. If defeated there too, they have the option of going to the Supreme Court.
