Furore on the government: My first priority to keep the problem of Riga sugar mill in the session: former minister

Former Agriculture Minister Sudhakar Singh said that the government does not have any agriculture policy. Bihar is an agricultural state, where agriculture is being done along the roads. Said that the area where I (they) come from, there is paddy and wheat. I understand the pain of the farmers very well. That is why I have come to Riga today. It is unfortunate that sitting on the chair of Bihar, the government is not understanding the problems of the farmers. He was addressing the workers and farmers at the Kisan Sabha organized at the Kisan Bhawan premises in Riga.

He said that the Bihar government is entirely responsible for the closure of the sugar mill. After independence, the maximum number of sugar mills used to be in Bihar. But, today the lowest sugar mill is in Bihar. What is the industrial policy of the government, that day by day sugar mills are getting closed. In the Bihar government, the legislature has become a slave of the government. The legislative system is becoming weak. Said that our first priority is to place the entire issue regarding Riga Sugar Mill before the government in the assembly session. The program was presided over by Anand Bihari Singh.

There were 33 sugar mills in Bihar, now only 9 are left.

The speakers present on the occasion said that there was a time when there were 33 sugar mills in Bihar. But, today only 9 sugar mills are left in Bihar. This is unfortunate for the government. Government should take initiative to make Riga Sugar Mill operational very soon. Among the speakers were Ranjit Mishra, RJD block president Anutha Lal Pandit, Rajesh Mishra alias Sonu, Nishant Mishra, Rahman Mansuri, Raman Pratap Singh etc.

Every speaker from the stage demanded to start the sugar mill

Before this, all the speakers from the dais, one by one, demanded the ex-minister to start the Riga Sugar Mill at any cost. The speakers said that some officials of the sugarcane department are corrupt. This is the reason why the sugar mill is in this plight. The sugar mill was run by the British from 1934 to 1950. From 1951 to 2020, this sugar mill was being run by the Dhanuka Group. Farmers and workers have become victims of starvation due to the closure of mills. He urged former minister Sudhakar Singh to hold talks with the government in the direction of starting the sugar mill.
