The skyrocketing prices of mustard oil have spoiled the pocket budget of the people. In such a situation, the farmers of Katihar have found a solution to get rid of it. The farmers of Katihar are now cultivating mustard on a large scale. The special thing is that earlier these farmers used to plant traditional crops like paddy, wheat, maize in the fields.
These days the farmers of Katihar are engaged in mustard cultivation. In fact, skyrocketing inflation is behind farmers’ mustard cultivation. The prices of edible oils have increased so much that these prices have made life miserable for the people. In open markets, one liter of 910 grams is coming for Rs.190 and one liter of mustard oil gets finished in five to six days, saving a family of five to seven people. One thousand rupees a month ends only on edible oils, so the distressed farmers have now again turned to the fields and are cultivating mustard on a large scale in the fields.
Farmer Shivshankar Mandal says that this time he has cultivated mustard in one acre, on which about ten thousand rupees have been spent. If everything goes well, then even after years of extracting mustard oil at home, the cost will be covered and there will be some benefits on top of that too. Farmer Shivshankar Mandal says that earlier they used to grow traditional crops in the fields, but now all of them have given up on it and have turned to mustard cultivation.
