    Farmer Suicide: Why are farmers committing suicide in Punjab? Annadata gave his life first in Mansa and now in Barnala

    Farmer Sukhjit Singh (55), a resident of village Bakhtgarh in Barnala district of Punjab, ended his life by hanging due to debt. According to the information, the first wife of the deceased Sukhjit Singh had died. After about a year and a half of marriage, the second wife left him. At this time he was living in his house with his 10-year-old boy. He was mentally disturbed due to increasing debt burden.

    Due to this, he tied a rope to a tree in an empty plot outside his house and hanged it. Makhan Shah, in-charge of police outpost Pakho Kanchiyan said that on the statement of the deceased’s sister Harvinder Kaur resident of Salabatpura district Bathinda, after conducting the post-mortem of the deceased, action has been taken under section 174 and the body has been handed over to the relatives.

    Mansa: Debt troubled farmer commits suicide
    On Friday, in village Bajewala of Mansa district, a farmer also committed suicide in his field due to debt. Kiranjit Kaur, wife of the deceased farmer Darshan Singh, told that her husband was very upset for some time due to rain water filling in the field and house.

    At the same time, SBI was troubling over non-payment of loans. Saddened by this, late on Thursday night, he committed suicide by jumping into a 15-feet deep well near his farm. Of the two sons of the deceased farmer, one is doing D.P.Ed and the other is doing graduation. According to Kiranjit Kaur, her husband has a bank loan of more than 13 lakhs, which she and her children cannot repay.
