A concerned netizen and self-confessed farmer slams Senator Cynthia Villar for her latest controversial statement affecting ordinary farmers and their abilities to understand climate change.
Senator Cynthia Villar made some headlines after she stated that the DA should do everything to help farmers because they don’t understand climate change and because of the facts that fishermen and farmers will protect themselves.
Sen. Villar was quoted as saying “Don’t expect the fishermen and farmers because they don’t know anything… The fishermen and farmers they will protect themselves? They don’t really understand the problem… DA should be the one to do it. Don’t rely on farmers and fishermen because they don’t understand climate change.”
The statement of Sen. Cynthia Villar was first heard during the continuation of the public hearing on the proposed FY 2023 budget of the Department of Agriculture and attached agencies and corporations on October 19, 2022.

Every day we experience and endure the hardships caused by the Climate Crisis, from water shortages, floods, typhoons..heavy downpours..abnormal weather..diseases and insects in the middle of these conditions. .we keep trying to create food for the people.
Now #senadorvillar we are the ones who don’t understand.
You think it’s YOU who make the law who doesn’t understand.
1. You have made no law to declare that there is a Climate Crisis
2. You have made no law so that we have access to a climate emergency fund for our recovery.
3. You are not stopping the conversion of lands for food. Hope you are the pioneer here.
4. You did not focus on renewable energy.
5. there is no DRRM mechanism in our agricultural and food systems.
6. Instead of aggressively promoting organic agriculture, you are reducing the budget.
7. The price of rice continues to fall, tomatoes are rotting, sinubuyas..and other products.
8. Still struggling and No awarded fisherfolk settlement yet. So the fishermen don’t have proper housing.
9. Their harbor and beaches are being usurped by overgrown beach resorts.
10. There is also no immediate help for fishermen when their boat is damaged.
There are many others..My hand hurts..from the litany..of your sin as legislators..
Let me just add The watersheds that are constantly threatened and violated by mines.
If you deserve it..I want to lecture you about our understanding of climate change..I am a farmer.! Fisherman too.!
