With the completion of a dream project of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, lakhs of people of Bihar will now start getting Gangajal easily throughout the years. For the first time, the supply of Ganga water is going to be ensured in Gaya, Nalanda and Nawada districts, which have a special identity on the religious and historical map of the world.
Under this dream project of CM Nitish Kumar, Har Ghar Gangajal, Bihar will be supplied with purified Gangajal at three places in Gaya, Bodh Gaya and Rajgir from this month itself. Significantly, even though the Ganges flows through Bihar, due to the geographical location, the water of the Ganges does not reach South Bihar. To overcome this problem a rare concept and first of its kind project in India was started.
Here the excess river water during the rainy season will be stored in reservoirs and potable water will be supplied to the people for 365 days of the year. This will be the first such scheme in the country under the Bihar government’s scheme Jal Jeevan Hariyali, in which flood water will be stored in huge reservoirs for four months and later made available for drinking water.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will inaugurate the project in Rajgir on November 27, Gaya on November 28 and Bodh Gaya. The first phase of this project is being launched in three cities of religious importance globally. These areas are visited by a large number of tourists, resulting in a high demand for water.
In the first phase of the project, this scheme will be started by purifying the stored water in the cities of Rajgir, Gaya and Bodh Gaya and supplying it for drinking water. On Wednesday, Bihar Government’s Water Resources Minister Sanjay Jha inspected the sites and directed the officials to complete the remaining works at the earliest.
