The Australian government took a major decision on Tuesday in which it refused to recognize West Jerusalem as the Israeli capital and withdrew recognition. The government has described the decision as part of peace talks between Israel and Palestine. Let us inform that the former Prime Minister of Australia, Scott Morrison, had recognized West Jerusalem as the capital of Israel in the year 2018, but now the new PM has changed this decision of the previous government.

At the same time, Australian Foreign Minister Wong has denied reversing the decision made by the previous government. A spokesman for Wong told Australia’s ABC News that the government wanted to consider the final status of Jerusalem as a matter to be resolved as part of any peace talks. Peace and security are essential for us. We will not support an approach that undermines the prospect of peace. The previous government had decided to recognize West Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
Israel claims the whole of Jerusalem
