    KHOBAR — Al-Qadsiah has announced the signing of Icelandic national team player Sara Björk Gunnarsdóttir to bolster their women’s team for the upcoming season.

    Sara, 33, is a seasoned midfielder with extensive experience. She has represented Iceland at various levels, starting with the U-17 team in 2007, the U-19 team from 2007 to 2008, and the senior national team from 2007 to 2023.

    At the club level, Sara has played for Breiðablik, Rosengård, VfL Wolfsburg, Olympique Lyonnais, and Juventus.

    Her list of achievements is impressive, including titles in Damallsvenskan, the Swedish Cup, the Swedish Super Cup, the Bundesliga, the DFB-Pokal, the UEFA Women’s Champions League, the French Cup, and the Italian Cup.

    Sara has played 136 matches for senior club teams, captained for seven years, and holds the record for the most appearances in Icelandic women’s national team history. She was named Icelandic Footballer of the Year and represented the University of the South Pacific. She is the first woman to win the title of Icelandic Athlete of the Year twice.

    Additionally, she won the Icelandic Athlete of the Year award in 2018 and 2020, represented national teams since the age of 16, holds the record for the most international caps (145 matches), is the top scorer of the national team (24 goals), and was named Icelandic Women’s Footballer of the Year for seven consecutive years from 2013 to 2020.

    Expressing her happiness about joining Al-Qadsiah, Sara said: “Joining a Saudi club is a unique and exciting step in my sports career.”
